Children’s and Youth Worker Person Specification

(Supporting the Children’s and Youth Minister)

Essential:

·       A growing and active Christian faith, with a personal relationship with Jesus.

  • Some experience working with children and/or young people in a Christian context (voluntary or paid).  A clear enthusiasm for engaging with children and young people, with a heart for evangelism and discipleship.
  • Relational and approachable, with strong interpersonal skills and a warm, pastoral manner that builds trust with young people and their families.
  • Willingness to work under the leadership of the Children’s and Youth Minister and contribute positively to a team culture.
  • Willing and able to support the planning and delivery of creative, age-appropriate activities that help children and youth grow in their faith.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and able to follow through on tasks with initiative where appropriate.  Organised and able to manage time well, including the ability to support events and programmes under pressure or deadlines.
  • Understanding of safeguarding principles and a commitment to promoting the safety and well-being of children and young people.  Able to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion, knowing when to raise safeguarding concerns and how to handle sensitive situations.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written, with a good standard of English.

Desirable:

  • Some formal or informal training in children’s or youth ministry (e.g. courses, conferences, or diplomas) and experience assisting with Christian outreach or church-based events.
  • Experience supporting or working within a team of volunteers.
  • Familiarity with using technology and social media to engage with young people and support ministry.

  • Employment will be subject to satisfactory references and an Enhanced DBS Disclosure.
